Something I've been struggling with is starting sessions. How do I get the conversation going? How do I get it past the content and into the process? Some reliable options I can use: 1. What feels most important for us to talk about today? 2. How have things been since we last met? 3. Can you walk me through a recent moment that didn’t go well between you? 4. How have you been feeling in the relationship this past week? Be prepared for "I don't know". Have some follow ups ready. - If you had to pick one small moment, even if it seems minor, what comes to mind? - Has it been more calm between you, or more like things are getting avoided? The goal is to get just a little bit of content, and then stay with the process after that. Slow it down, and focus on what's happening inside in those moments. --- Related Notes: - [[Therapist tips and tricks]] - [[Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)]] This note was originally created on **March 18, 2026**.
