When trying to figure out the negative interaction cycle between two partners, use this as a guide. There will always be 4 parts to the cycle: 1. Trigger (what started it this time) 2. Primary emotion (what each partner is feeling but not saying) 3. Protective move (the secondary emotion, what they do with the primary one) 4.
