Interventions ultimately rid the family of the presenting problem When giving directives, the therapist will ask for permission and only proceed if they client is ready and comfortable. They will ask questions to ensure they understand the directive and are okay with it. This ensures there is trust between the therapist and the client. ## Directives Focus on communication in the **present.** Two types: ### Straightforward Directives Clear instructions for the client or advice ### Indirect & Paradoxical Directives Giving paradoxical instructions so clients do the opposite
