When I first created [[My Zettelkasten system]], I decided to also use it as a second brain. Traditionally, Zettelkasten is used to house research and notes that will eventually become published material. A second brain, in contrast, is meant to hold potentially private information.
This was further complicated by my desire to keep my entire vault public (as much as possible). This resulted in me keeping some notes in a special ‘private’ folder.
However, I recently realized that notes that are truly private probably don’t belong in my vault to begin with. For example, all the notes I take after therapy have traditionally been kept as a password protected note. I recently realized that these are better suited in Day One in a dedicated therapy notes journal.
I also had financial information in a locked note. I moved this info into 1Password as a secure note.
A rule of thumb: if you desire for a note to be locked or extra protected, it probably means it belongs somewhere else.
