Each individual belongs to different subsystems in [[Structural Family Therapy]].
Structural therapy emphasizes the family as a whole as well as between sub-units.
An individual may be in multiple subsystems, and their role will be different in each.
- Especially re: spousal subsystem and parental subsystem
In [[Structural Family Therapy]], there is a clear "correct" way that each subsystem way should be functioning.
### Parental Subsystem
- Spouses need to mutually support and accommodate each other
- No good cop bad cop, no strict parent and chill parent
- Parents are on the same page and in sync
### Spouse Subsystem
- Unlike parental subsystem, spouses can complement each other in different ways, they don't have to be 100% in sync
- The couple must still have space to exist even if they are parents, separate from the parental subsystem
### Sibling Subsystem
- Allows children to be children and experience peer relationships
Subsystems are formed by...
- Accommodation (accommodating each other)
- Negotiation (reveals the authority in the system)
