Some additional random notes that I wanted to capture from [[The Notebook]] by [[Roland Allen]]. Parchment = expensive, made from animal hide, laborious process to make, required for religious texts by the church Paper = originated in the east (i forget which country), much cheaper, could use recycled linens like underwear to produce, less effort, more output of paper The notebook was foundational in the world of accounting, seems like the first ledger that used double-entry accounting (debits and credits) happened because of paper and notebooks, the foundation of tracking business finances and net worth of accounts. Prior to paper, art was not portrayed in realistic ways. The invention of the sketchbook is believed to have allowed artists capture thousands of reference drawings and practice their art before creating the final work. The change to realism painting was rooted in the invention of the sketchbook and abundance of paper.
