These are the rules for [[My Zettelkasten system]]. They are high-level, and should be relevant regardless of the app I'm using or the way I format anything.
## Rule 1: Transform fleeting to evergreen notes
Notes will always start in the inbox and require polishing before they can be considered evergreen. The whole point of this system is to avoid having a library of worthless notes. Invest time in cleaning things up so that you can find value in them in the future.
See [[The goals of my Zettelkasten system]] if you need a reminder of why you're doing this.
## Rule 2: Let notes flow
Do not create a detailed organizational or tagging structure. Do not set up a complicated naming convention for titles or metadata (see [[Unique IDs aren't worth it in note titles]]).
Keep things super simple. All notes should flow into one folder. Trust in the power of linking and MoCs. You are creating a bottom-up structure, so your notes will organically cluster around topics that are important in your life.
Don't try to force a structure.
## Rule 3: Link, link, and link
Linking between notes is the reason why you're doing this. Do so liberally.
Do not stress about having a specific linking system in place. I'm sure you will refine and figure things out as your system evolves. A good rule of thumb is to ensure that every note is linked to at least one Map of Content so it has some chance of being rediscovered in the future.
